Post Re: Question about monitors
Does contrast ratio really matter?

Asus MX299Q 80,000,000:1 $449.00 Newegg
http://www.asus.com/News/bXqNYijAw7bFGgWv

LG 29EA93 5,000,000:1 $499.00 Fry's
http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-29EA93-P-led-monitor

Why is the LG higher priced?

btw: I got a hands on experience today at Fry's. I have to say gaming on it is an experience. However it seems to be a 23-24" monitor thats been stretched.
Coming from someone who has been using a 27" monitor this on seems smaller except for its width.
I feel like I'm downgrading to smaller monitor but wider. But the gaming looked dam good.
I don't like giving up that real estate.
I'm kinda on the fence.

Yup, it definitely is a stretched 23".

And no, both those are wildly inaccurate numbers. My best guess is that they both use the same identical panel. The LG has more "features" though if you have any intention on using them. MHL (phone) support and the ability to view 2 sources side-by-side

the Asus has slightly better color accuracy, but it's very slight, we're talking delta difference of less than .5 compare to the LG. The LG has better real contrast ratio 1200:1 VS Asus' 1000:1 real contrast.

if i had to pick, i'd get the LG, just because based on reviews, the Asus suffers from serious screen uniformity issue and flash lighting. the LG is more uniform across.

both screens have pretty similar contrast and color accuracy right out of the box (pre-calibration), the only thing that separate them apart is screen uniformity, which can still vary from panel to panel. but i would get the LG. you get 200 more contrast and better uniformity.

EDIT: i forgot. if you get the LG make sure it's Rev 1.25 or later. earlier revisions had some serious input lag and slow pixel lag issues. those older revisions were bad enough that a typical gamer would notice. make sure it's Rev 1.25

And to verify said revision I need to do what? Read the back of the monitor or on the box?
Plus I just found out Frys only has one of the LGs left and its the display and im not sure they will sell it.
plus its only 499 compared to around 600 anywhere else online :(

if it's not on the box, usually on the back of the monitor, where you'll usually find serial number, model, and revision

Well it would be a crap shoot on whether I get the latest rev. I cant merely ask them take it out of the box so I can look so instead of taking the risk I will play it safe and either get the asus or the AOC q2693.
LG also has another one LGEA73p but its 599 for some odd reason

Frys is the one with the display LG. Only one left. I could go look for myself however that monitor does not show a revision number. Only (rev.00). But shows a month and year manufacturer date. How would I know by which month of 2013 would be the new rev?
Microcenter carries the AOC ....and frys does have the 100 more LGea73p nib which im assuming is more expensive because its height adjustable.
The AOC is only 389.00

Odd shit.
Im on my phone and cant post links but take a look at neweggs comparisons of the lg29ea73 and 29ea93. Other than the color they look the same yet over 100 apart with newegg having the 73 cheaper
on the other hand Frys has the 93 cheaper. Its flipped. Kinda odd.

goddammit im just gonna get the Asus. LG is messin with my head and im too old for that. Right AK?

i don't know dude.. there's very little info on the 73 model. i can't find any measurements.

just go with the Asus then. you might end up getting one with really bad screen uniformity, just make sure you have good return policy so you can exchange it for free.

i really don't know. since i don't own the monitor. i think your best bet is to get it and return it if the lag is too much. since it's Frys they let you return shit for free. that's my favorite thing about Frys. trying new things out there.

somebody got extremely creative.
I need to find that old thread with pics included.

I passed up a hell of a deal.
Newegg has the Asus MX299Q for 401.00 shipped after promo code ending today.
Almost pulled the trigger.
kept reading negative reviews.
I will stick with one of the LGs
