Post GTX 460 SLI
Think it could handle most of the latest games? And how much of the second card is really utilized? I never quite understood completely how sli works.

Post Re: GTX 460 SLI
Sli is worst investment you can throw your money into. you're better off investing in one powerful GPU. it doesn't scale as well as if you were to just buy a one powerful GPU. best case scenario, provided if you have the corrected Sli profile for the program you're running, you'll get close to 90% or the performance of an equivalent powerful single GPU. in most cases, in real world, you likely will only see half the benefit of the additional card, and in many cases, maybe 20%. in worst case scenario, you won't see any performance gain at all. and in rare worst case, you might see a performance degrade, due to some games not properly optimized on SLI.

not to mention one important fact. SLI profile is essential to gain the additional performance of the additional card. however, most SLI profile (or crossfire) tend to come out 6 months after a new game is out, in some cases longer. by the time they have the right SLI profile to run the game, you most likely beat the game already.

if space is an issue, and you have tons of money to throw and they're burning a hole in your wallet, please spend it on Sli.

That may have applied a few years ago BAM, but nowadays it's MUCH MUCH better. Crossfire is still a piece of shit though.

No major complaints with my GTX690 which is effectively SLI (just on a single card). NVIDIA releases updates pretty quickly, usually in advance of major game releases for that matter.

That being said, we need more context behind this Comixion. Do you have a single GTX460 and just want to gain some performance? If so, then yes SLI would do it for you. If you're buying 2 "new" GTX460's, then no not worth it.

Post Re: GTX 460 SLI
Sorry for ths lack of info. Im typing on my cell. Im having to RMA my 680 so I may be down a while. Now I know why I shoulda kept at least one video card laying around.
Anyways I jist want to make sure I can keep on keepin on so I found a few options. One gtx 560 2gb for 140.00. 2 gtx 460 for 175. Or even just a single 460 or 465. Dont want to shell out for a new card. Just a backup to keep but yet run BF3. DO I need at least 2gb or will 1gb handle it.

I had a GTX460 SLI setup, it played everything as far as i needed without a blink. I downgraded to a single 6870 to run mac OS on the system though. Course now I've been gaming again so i wish I hadn't sold the 460's, they were great.

I'm thinking about a 660 soon, i game on a single monitor at 1600x1200, a 660 is probably more than I even need

Plain GTX660? Or GTX660 Ti?

Well I went to pickup the plain 660 (eVGA) but next to it I noticed the Asus GTX 660ti for $30 more on sale. (259.00) along with a $20 rebate to make it 239.00. So since the plain eVGA was $229 it was a no-brainer to get the Asus. It handles BF3 pretty well and runs cooler than the GTX 680.

MUCH MUCH better choice! Good call for sure.

That's basically on-par with the GTX670.
