Post Yamaha HTIB
So on Christmas Eve I ordered a Yamaha YHT3045HD HTIB. Sadly the receiver was DOA when I got it yesterday after wasting a few hours hooking it all up. Quite the disappointment, but shit happens...

Took it back to Best Buy today and of course they didn't have stock on the YHT3045HD as it was a Boxing Day/Week sale for $379 from $700. Luckily though the next model up, the YHT3028HD was on sale for $399. It has the same subwoofer and receiver as the YHT3045HD, but it lacks the cheap, small, plastic satellites and replaces them with larger wood/MDF speakers. Even if the model number doesn't seem to correlate, I'd say it's the next model up. Oddly the YHT3045HD can't even be found on the Yamaha website so it may be an exclusive Best Buy Canada product.

Anyways, got it all setup a few hours ago and it sounds surprisingly good for a "cheap" system. Definitely better than expected. Subwoofer is only an 8", but at least it's powered so it punches pretty hard. Not as hard as my Boston Acoustics CS10 (10") upstairs though, but that was expected.

It's setup in my basement and is a relatively small space compared to the living room upstairs so the sound feels more immersive without too much volume. Fired up the Dead Space 2 Demo on XBOX 360 and creeped me out a bit ;)

The receiver however is pretty basic. It does HDMI audio though and supports 3D after a firmware update (which needs to be done using an optical CD player :? ). No HD audio formats, but it has 4 HDMI inputs at least. No loss of picture quality either which is good. My older Yamaha upstairs seems to alter the colours slightly. So basically just your basic 5.1 with DTS/DD. It's more than sufficient for this secondary system though. Majority of movie watching will be done upstairs anyhow due to a comfy sofa.

Anyways, if any of you are looking for a cheap HTIB, I'd definitely recommend the Yamaha HTIB's. At least you get a full-size receiver with plenty of inputs, compared to some of those Sony/Samsung/etc ones which are a bit limited.

Here are some pictures. Excuse my sloppy focusing in some of them  but I can't be bothered.

Looking very good there JD :D Gotta admit my Yamaha processor is fricking great for its age :) Bought it back in 2001 I think, still going strong. Shame some of the codec's arent working because of the newer ones that are out, but an upgrade will fix that :)

I wondered why no one bothered to reply when you first posted this thread, as I remembered reading it way back then. I didn't bother to reply because I didn't really have anything to say about it ... sorry.

I found this out about the color orange:

ORANGE: Lovers of the color orange lean toward sexual
fantasies. The sex act is regarded as a dramatic one-act play in
which they are the star. Foreplay is as important as the act of
love. They whisper sweet nothings, meaningless dialogue; they
feel it is their image. Orange people often do not experience
orgasm -- but they put on a darn good act. Men tend to pull
their partner's hair, and women leave red welts on the sex
partner's back.

Ahem ... JD, if I recall correctly ... you're only 18 or 19 ... You've not lived long enough to fit ANY sexual description, other than maybe "VIRGIN!"

Well, on the bright side of things, you can go out and drink if you're so inclined to do so. But I wouldn't make it a habit. Look at what it has done to Nova ...

Nah, alcohol isn't my kind of thing either. Don't really like the taste of it, but perhaps that's acquired.

However it seems to "be cool" and "fit in", you need to sit in a bar after work every night.

Maybe you should try it. You might find a female companion and then you won't be so all alone and pitiful anymore.
