Post My new favorite HTPC remote is...
...my iPhone. :)

No really, hear me out.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/touch-mo ... ac=ps|6660

Logitech released an app that turns your iPhone into a touchpad and keyboard. It's great! includes multi-touch for two-finger scrolling (something the Macs have had for years).

I was looking to buy a small wireless keyboard and mouse combo for my home theater PC, but this is all I will ever use now. :)

Be sure to download and run the server app on your computer if you download the app for the iPhone (Logitech failed to mention that was needed).

That sounds way cool. But I don't think I'll be using it cause I don't have an iPhone ... anyone want to loan me one so I can try this out? (Listens for a bit ... "I didn't think so!")

Over the years i have found that the Logitech harmony is the best line of remotes i have ever used. I have a logitech harmony 880 and its awesome.

Working with Windows Media Center it allows full control of all my devices inc. my HTPC.
I use a Lenovo mini keyboard for text entry which is rarely used:

the reason i don't like the iphone or any phone as a remote is it requires the use of an app or something and is desigend to be taken with you which is not something you want in a living room or home theater envrioment.

I think its a great add on but i would not want to use it as my number one method.

i've been contemplating about getting one of the Harmony, or ONE for a while, but never could pull the trigger because i was never positively sure that it'll work with my Imon IR module. my currently HTPC case came with an IMON module with a remote that's made of out plastic turd!.. that remote pisses me off everytime i use it. it's unresponsive and hard to use.

if i can know for a fact that those logitech remote will work with my Imon IR module, and then i am sold.

on a side note, i recently replaced my broken Onkyo receiver with a pioneer one that supports remote controlling through an Iphone app, like the one you're talking about. but never really bothered with it. because the factory remote that came with it does everything i need. the iphone capability was just more of a wow factor for the friends lol.

Try this harmony lookup tool:
http://myremotesetup.com/EasyZapper/New ... ocSpice%2F

my case also has an imon module in it but i told it to repilicate the Windows MCE remote and it works perfectly.

One other thing is the harmony can learn IR signals from other remotes:
http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/app ... 1/kw/learn

so either way you are covered.

There is also the Harmony 900 which is the same as the ONE but with built in RF which can also be useful if you want to hide your devices behind doors.

oops try this. http://www.logitech.com/harmony/components

search for the case manufacturer rather than imon.

it looks like it MIGHT just work.

now it boils down to which remote. i was looking at the ONE, 900, 700, and 650.

i know that ONE and 900 are a bit outside of my budget, i just can't justify spending that much on a remote control, and it won't sit well with the wife.

i was looking at the 650. it looks simple enough.

I just bought a 650i, works great (like my previous 550) but only supports 4 devices. Much better feel though than the 550.

I would be tempted to look at the refurb One and 900's over the others and see if that comes down in price.

How many devices do you need to control? The 650 only supports 5 as opposed to the ONE that supports 15. you also get the recharge dock which i rather like.

When i got my 880 it was on amazon as a refurb for 69.99usd but that was back in 2009.

Which case do you have with the imon in it? My Antec Fusion Max came with one.

sounds like the 650 might be a good choice.

Yep, thats the same imon module as mine.

One thing you will loose is the mouse emulator pad that is on the imon. i always hated it so it was not a loss for me
