Trying to decide on a new board....
So I've decided to look at getting a new MoBo since mine is starting to retire. I want to go with the new i-series route but i'm not sure which one to get. I don't need tons of performance but I was looking at the ASUS P7H55-M PRO board and the EVGA P55 LE board. There doesn't seem to be much difference besides the EVGA one costing more, having more USB ports, an extra PCI, the size, and the cost. So Maybe you guys could let me know what you think. I'm not super heavy on games and all the extra ports really won't be of any benefit. Thanks. :)

Just some other things I thought of. I will be suing an older graphics card. Just a spare 4550. Possibly buying a new one if it's cheap xD so yeah if you guys have recommendations for other boards that'd be nice too. Whatever you think would be a good budget board that can handle medium-highish gaming. I'm stuck at 4gb of RAM until a new OS too so that could be taken into consideration.

Hey Nitro, I too would recommend you go with the p55/i series platform. Check out my build, I recently got everything working.

There are crazy deals on newegg right now. Might as well get into the shopping spirit. :D

PS: I have an extra i5-750 cpu if you need one. :D

After looking at your sig, I couldn't resist.

If you're on a tight budget, I'd go with the i3 530/540. Overclocks nicely and still has Hyperthreading. Pair it up with a mid-range P55 board and you should be set.

And a decent heatsink:

Lets say I don't go an i series route and go with AMD. I was looking at this set up. What do you think about this? Is it worth it? Are there some better options or ways I could make it cheaper? I want it to be cheap as possible because I'm cheap lol but I do want performance at about that level.

First and foremost, do not buy DDR2. Absolutely expensive. $50 for DDR3 vs $100 for DDR2. Crazy.

Dual: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103903
Tri: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103872
Quad: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103871
880G: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131673 Has onboard graphics, possibly Hybrid-Crossfire with the 4550? Not sure.
870: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131651 No onboard graphics but full ATX.
4GB DDR3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820146748 Cheapest set after rebate.

For the case, I'd avoid Rosewill and go with a more brand-name model, such as these:

Do you need a new PSU as well?

Supply and demand. Mostly demand. They know mucho people still use it and refuse to upgrade to DDR3, plus go through it like free hershey's kisses in a bowl.
