Post Samsung QX412
Just bought one of these: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/sam ... c2dc15en02

The SSD in it is pretty darn speedy:

Compared to the Vertex 2 in my desktop:

My only qualm so far is the fucking piece of shit bilingual keyboard. Pretty much any laptop you buy here has this godforsaken keyboard.

It's a bit chunky and heavy, but doesn't seem to be much different compared to my XPS m1330, but this packs way more power.

Going to use it for the weekend and decide if I'll return it or not.

hmm I happen to be shopping for 2 laptops at the moment to replace the 2 I have. Time for something new after a year and a half. However I did not know they were available with SSD's. And I'm looking for 2 17" models.

Well this is only 14", so not for you then. Nicely built though with an aluminum lid and around the keyboard is aluminum as well. Only the bottom/chassis is plastic which seems fairly solid. It has some play to it but not too much.

OH NO THE INNARDS ARE EXPOSED!

Make note, that is a non-user serviceable battery (as they call it). Clearly it's not THAT hard to access though ;)

Going to pickup an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 today to replace the Advanced-N 1000 in it. Then I think I'll be good to go.

I did run some Crysis 2 on it last night with "High" settings and it actually played pretty decently. Definitely not 60FPS and probably not even 30FPS, I'd guess around 20-25FPS. It's definitely playable though and still looks good.

I still need to do a clean install of Windows too.

Non-user serviceable battery be damned!

I'm contemplating putting MX-3 on the CPU/GPU, but I don't know if it's worth it...

And I took off the heatsink and cleaned up the mess of paste that was everywhere...

Hmm...you must be bored. ;) But hey it's something to do right? Don't you find MX-3 to be little more pasty (no pun intended) than the MX-2? which imo has a better "smoothness" to it and works just as well.
And btw: that's my first ever look at the inside of a laptop. :shifty:

Actually my MX-3 is quite smooth. I know people had complained when it originally came out, but I never had that "batch"...

All back together now (and still working). Now with Intel's 6230 WiFi! :)

One of the screws was stripped from the factory though, and I broke the head off another while putting it back together. I smell manufacturing defect (cheap screw?). Doesn't seem to matter though that I'm missing 2 screws since it also "snaps" together.

Hard to capture the lid, but it's brushed aluminum.
