Post speaking of laptops.....
i might be on the hunt for a kickass laptop. though the term kick-ass i use loosely with the company on this forum to be honest.

what im looking for needs to be semi compatible with OSX.

so i'm thinking an i5 based laptop, with a lower end nvidia graphics and 8gb of ram, though ram is cheap and i don't think many laptops come with more than 4gb

so far, i've been looking at a lenovo g560 i think it is, or a samsung r580 variant

im looking for something around a 15" size, i'd like to avoid another 17" laptop or bigger, i need it semi portable. battery life is also not really a concern for me, if it lasts an hour on battery, thats an hour more than i need

any suggestions? something around 1000 or less

i think i found the one

dude!>.. it's funny like that you checked out the same laptop.

after HP lost me as a customer, last night i went on newegg to look for similar laptop. and that's one of the candidates i have in my wishlist.

only thing is... although it has some "brush aluminum" feel on the top side. overall speaking, it still feels/looks pretty cheapish, which was why i wanted the Envy, cause it had the same Mac book feel to it, fully aluminum and nice keyboard.

i'll have to wait and see what i decide in the next few days.

the price is very good tho, and i think it has a BD drive? let us know if you end up getting it.

Specs look solid but personally I'd rather have no optical drive in favor of a slimmer profile/larger battery/larger heatsinks.

ASUS definitely isn't known for battery life or silent laptops though. Fan usually runs non-stop which has it's advantages and disadvantages.

has it been done that anyone successfully installs win7 on Mac book?

i know that OSX has its own virtualization feature to run windows, but i am just wondering if anyone, or any company has successfully run a Win 7 on those mac books.

i just like the mac book build quality but hate OSX..... does that make sense.

so basically the cons of this laptop, ie cheapesh feel, poor battery life, and noisy cooling, aren't really going to bother me. its perfect for me. i want it as a portable hackintosh to go with the mixer for DJ'ing, so the noisy cooling will be overpowered by noisier sound, battery isn't a problem since it will be on AC, and the cheapesh feel, well, for the hardware in it, and the price, its a compromise, im sure the "1080p" screen is quite the added cost in that thing for its price range and size

Honestly not sure, but if I had to take a guess, I'd say it emulates BIOS (as Macs have used EFI for ages) to support booting from MBR rather than GUID. Otherwise its just Intel/NVIDIA/AMD hardware.

AFAIK, Windows still doesn't support booting from GUID partitions even though we have UEFI motherboards now. I guess Windows 8 will change that?

Bootcamp is not virtualization. We run Windows native for us. Bootcamp is a series of tools and drivers that allow us to format the drive from Mac OS to be compatible with a Windows install, as well as drivers needed to run Windows on Mac devices.

so does win7 perform fully on those Macs then? play all the games too?

and is it possible to install just win7 on it, without the OSX..

any catch? anything i should watch out for?

Yes, I use Windows 7 for that very reason. Hence why I can play Fallout: New Vegas.

I suppose this is possible although I have never tried it. I Have Windows 7 on a completely different drive, so I suspect I could just remove the Mac drive and just boot Windows.

The only thing to be aware of is drivers. Yes anything that has Windows drivers "should" work as long as you are booted into Windows. However the whole EFI vs Bios thing some times causes hardware to not work correctly (unless of course it was designed to work in a mac). In theory, I can use any GPU I want, as long as I never boot into the Mac OS. Which I have tried with an old X1900 and it worked just fine (In Windows).

That answer your question?
