Post got bored - Hackintosh
got bored after getting my hands on an e6600, so i picked up a gigabyte g41m-e2sl board and slapped 2gb of kingston hyper-x that i had here and a drive into my antec P150 case kicking around.

ill take pics of the box when i get it back together, but for now here's a screen

Image

so as you can see, its running osx, snow leopard, fully functional, and i actually bought a copy of it to use, lol, it was cheap. but i have synergy on it, so its tied in alongside my windows and linux boxes, i need to fix the other 2 matching monitors i have, and park it more permanently somehow

i know, thats why i picked that one for a backround......i might be dreaming, but meh

and yeah, its working solid. i don't know what to use it for, other than reference for working on other peoples mac's, but i haven't played with it much, and so far between linux and windows, i find certain things are always easier on one than the other, so now i have an extra option.

my biggest problem, is the minute it boots up, i go straight for the terminal, can you tell im a unix/linux head?

here's a quick shot of her innerds

Image

truly nothing special obviously

but full specs are
Antec P150 case
Antec Truepower 430w
Gigabyte G41M-E2SL
Core 2 Duo E6600 + CoolerMaster Hyper 212
Kingston 2x1gb HyperX DDR2 PC8500
Asus Geforce 8800GS flashed to 9600GSO for no apparent reason other than the sake of flashing
WD 250gb
some optical drive
some fans

not a bad little box i will say, for what it is. tbh, its not a bad little mobo either, i wouldn't buy gigabyte usually, but it was in stock, and socket 775 boards aren't typically just on hand anymore. seems ok so far for the simpleton 54$ board that it is. i'm pondering building the setup into my G4

here's my temporary setup as well, i have two more of those 20 inch monitors i can fix and find a way to squeeze into the setup, not sure how im going to do that thugh
Image

so far though, runs stable, i have office 2011 on it, Photoshop CS5, opera, msn, basics really. but as mentioned, its fully up to date, QE is working, its a cheap toy, lol

ya, frickin DDR2, money's going to be burning alright, lol

had known i was going to break down 3 days later and decide i like the box and want to upgrade it, i would have bought the G41MT-D3 board that was at the store for the same price. DDR3 is so cheap now

but at the same time, i've put 136$ into this box so far, the quad im getting for 100$, new, sealed in box, i guess the guy bought it and never used it? ram will be the main expense really. either way, its still a cheap hackintosh compared to apple hardware prices

though an i5 would have been neat since apple is using them now, so OSX would have probably been just as easy to get going. im not going to figure out that price different though, i don't think i should know, otherwise i may go shopping

yeah, its going to be 2 screens per machine when im done. all matching viewsonic vp2030b's, they do 1600x1200 and hardly cost me a thing since they were free other than the components to fix them

im running 3 machines, one windows, one linux, and now one mac, i'll be using 6 monitors in total, and synergy to share keyboard and mouse, currently with 5 monitors, its quite usefull.

each system has a quad core, and all 3 will have 8gb ram

So how about you write up a tutorial as I'm guessing you didn't use one of the pre-hacked discs if you bought OSX.

I got an ASUS G41 board that I wouldn't mind doing the same with ;)

honestly, i used a hacked disc, iatkos, it was the easiest way, pretty much booted it, formatted the drive, and clicked install.

had to get a kext for the lan to work, and then ran the apple updates.

the bought copy was more for legitimacy, cuz it was so cheap. i was going to use boot123 with the store bought disc, but got lazy
