I think Intel will always hold the reliability crown...correct me if I'm wrong though.

I've had my Vertex 2 for over a year now without any failures. I have a Vertex 1 sitting in my laptop for close to 2 years without any issues. I guess it's really just about luck and how heavily you write to the drive on a daily basis.

I agree as to the extent in which SSDs are used. My two 64GB Crucial C300s are in a RAID 0 config on an Intel ICH10R. I am writing to them constantly as I have several programs (email, Quickbooks, photo editing, music) that are residing on the C drive. I recently (Rev.0009 is available) upgraded to Firmware Rev.0007 for the Crucial C300's and have yet to see any degradation in performance or any indications of failure. I have also started using the M4 (shipped w/Rev.0009) versions of Crucial's SSDs in the last couple of customer builds. So far, so good ... just as they say in Africa ...

I guess with Avid using the Sandy Bridge chipset as opposed to the X58 (Intel ICH10R) I'm using, that could account for better write performance for his two 60GB MUSHKIN Callistos. Though I'm not sure of the actual NAND memory those Callistos are using, or whether that has anything to do with it at all, I do have a better overall read performance than Avid's ... just saying :ugeek:

I have a Gigabyte Z68XUD3H-B3 board with an i5-2500K that I may be using for an HTPC in the very near future. I may very well put it on my test bench and couple it with two Crucial M4 128GB SSDs to see how it performs in RAID 0 and non-RAID for grins and giggles. From what I've read, SSD's write performance increases with the overall size (in GBs). Right? Wrong?

Are you sure Jeff? :naughty:

Better ATTO Read Performance:

0000.5 - Avid6eek
0001.0 - Avid6eek
0002.0 - Avid6eek
0004.0 - Avid6eek
0008.0 - Tie
0016.0 - Avid6eek
0032.0 - Avid6eek
0064.0 - AKHandyman
0128.0 - AKHAndyman
0256.0 - AKHandyman
0512.0 - Avid6eek
1024.0 - Avid6eek
2048.0 - Avid6eek
4096.0 - Avid6eek
8192.0 - Avid6eek

Maybe it's an optical illusion because your Write performance is so horrible the green bars look longer :P . Yeah yeah...it's Mushkin...I get it.

You went to a lot of trouble typing all of that to prove your point. Yeah, I was glitzed by the longer green bars alright ... got to be the Sandy Bridge platform that gives you the edge. We'll see when I get my Crucial M4s (128GB) and put them on my Z68XUD3H.

Maybe you could explain why you have the better write performance coming from the 60GB Callistos ...

I used to have an array of 8 15k SAS drives on a 5805 in my ESXi box and it posted some amazing numbers. Your results look good Phil....nice compromise between price, storage capacity and performance.

I think for what I paid for then nearly 2 years ago they have and will do me very well. I wonder when I overclock the CPU if the numbers will increase but I'm very happy with what I have now. It's amazing how much the bios update helped it :)

What drives did you gave David?
