Benchmark Standings - Hard Drives (CDM & ATTO)
To consolidate the results, all the various hard drive/SSD benchmarks out there will be here. Currently we are focusing on CrystalDiskMark and ATTO Disk Benchmark.

Download: CrystalDiskMark
Download: ATTO Disk Benchmark (recommended for SSDs)

Submit your screenshot to a moderator to have it added to the standings below. Please include the drive model and SATA controller as well.

CrystalDiskMark - SSD

Post Re: Benchmark Standings - Hard Drives (CDM & ATTO)
Two older vertex drives in RAID 0 still pack quite a performance punch...even compared to the newer Vertex 2. I was considering upgrading my drives, but I guess the small gain I'd probably get from the Vertex 2 isn't really worth it. I'll probably wait for the SATA600 interface.

you forgot about me.

i did a run in Crystal about 6 months back with two Samsung F3's in Raid 0 and got 270MB/s. it's somewhere in the old pcstats forum.

Two things ... One, Avid's links are NOT working ... probably his server is down at the moment. Two, here's my CDM3 and ATTO SSD report:

ImageImage
Two Crucial C300 64GB (SATA III) RAID 0 on ICH10R

Read speeds are pretty fast for these 64GB SSD's in RAID 0 (updated latest F/W 0006 as of Aug 1, 2011)
My writes are generally low due to low disk space and the fact that these C300 64GB SSD's are equipped with 16 4GB NAND modules which the company says has an average write of appx 70 ~ 80 GB. With my two SSD's in RAID 0, you see that the write is about double that!

Thanks Howard! But take a look at those Raptors ... I remember when they were the shyt in RAID 0 .... now, all they do is plug along. But they still do the trick for storage as I use them for my games and apps only!

Damn ISP...blocking port 80. I'll have to find another port to use.

I've used Muskin, G.Skill and OCZ Vertex drives. I experienced a 75% failure rate with the Vertex 2 and have had no failures with the Muskin or G.Skill drives. Based on other forums it seems as though OCZ has a much higher failure rate that other manufacturers.

I've used Crucial drives and haven't experienced any failures. But now that I've said that, I've probably jinxed myself to no end ...

BTW David, it's MUSHKIN, not Muskin ...

that's actually a very good topic to discuss.. i think most of the time people neglect the reliability.

i've also heard quite good things about Samsung's SSD drives. Kingston seems to get pretty good reps too. i was wondering about OCZ's reliability, and apparently they are shady... i just didn't know the failure rate was that high. i wonder if this is something they fixed in the Vertex 3 series.

i do plan on upgrading to SSD sometime in mid~late 2012, it'll be interesting to see which manufacture will have the best reliability vs performance score. what do you guys think?

Post Re: Benchmark Standings - Hard Drives (CDM & ATTO)
I think Intel will always hold the reliability crown...correct me if I'm wrong though.

Samsung sold off their hard drives (and I'm assuming SSDs too) to Seagate, so it's hard to say what the future holds there exactly.

I've had my Vertex 2 for over a year now without any failures. I have a Vertex 1 sitting in my laptop for close to 2 years without any issues. I guess it's really just about luck and how heavily you write to the drive on a daily basis.
