Post the Official Battlefield 4 thread
so the Beta is out last night at 1am. who's tried it?

i stayed up til 1 to try out the game. the graphics at Ultra setting is amazing!!!!. mostly the difference you'll notice the atmosphereic effect, or the haze you see on the battlefield resembles the real world hazy look. better fire, and dynamics.

unfortunatelly my 5 year old Core 2 Quad is finally running out of steam. it struggles to keep up and struggles to feed the data to my HD7970. the CPU is at constant 100% bottlnecked, and GPU is only doing 50%. the game runs at 25~30fps for me. so in a few weeks, i am finally going to pull the trigger on a new CPU/mobo/memory upgrade.

the only map thats available at this point is the shanghai map. it has helo, but no jets. i didn't get to the see the building crumble, but one of our game's department creative director here was just testing out the game at his desk and got to see the building crumble. it's cool.

i also LOVE the Spark effect. now when vehicle blows up, you actually see the sparks flying.

Sounds like my kinda fun. The only sad part of this is I will have to stop playing bf3 to play this. Decisions. .decisions.

it's simple, why would you keep on playing the same old game when a new better one is out.

it's more of problem for me than for you. your system can run it better, as oppose to mine that's currently bottlenecked by the CPU.

pre-order, and BF3 premium member qualify as well. it's lame, i know.. it's eA

X64 game, is that why it runs like crap. i've been looking around the net today. based on the preliminary beta benchmarks.. it seems doesn't matter if you have a 7970 with a i7 @4.9ghz or a 780 with i7 at 2.8ghz, it mostly all run like crap around 25~30fps in 2550x1440. it seems the game itself has some way to go as far as optimization goes. at first i thought it was because my 5 year old dated CPU, but it seems folks with uber high end rigs are getting roughly the same fps at the resolution as well. dropping AA down from 4x to 0X only yield about 3fps at 2550 res.

also WTF is up with some of the recent games that makes the AfterBurner OSD not appear on screen. it's fucking annoying. i like to be able to monitor my GPU temp, frame rate, and voltage.

in that case , I'm out. To much trouble to go with just to play the beta.

Post Re: the Official Battlefield 4 thread
i don't know.. i often ask the same question. but it all comes down to bang for your buck. for the past 5 years, dropping $500~$600 bucks just did't seem as good of a value than say, upgrading the home theater from 5.1 to 7.1, or getting a new 60" top of the line Samsung LED, or trade in my SRT for a Porsche Cayman. all those options all seemed to bring in more value than a faster CPU, which didn't really hinder my gaming experience until recently when Crysis 3 came out. i am not saying all these things cost the same, they don't, but dollar vs value wise, they all seemed like a better investment than a few more frames in game. :) i don't know... there're just too many things in life i can ugprade.. too many.

but fear not steve... i am getting real close.. i plan on doing the upgrade this black friday. i already ordered the necessary water block upgrade and coolant. so it's just up to when the deal for the 3770K, Z77 mobo, and 16Gb memory will come out. :D

You also need to realize AMD was heavily invested in this game. And it was built using their new "Mantle API" that is optimized for their GCN architecture.

As such, I suspect the new R9 290X with a 8-core AMD CPU will likely run BF4 the "best". All speculation though.

In reality the cash reference was only a tongue in cheek ploy to get you to upgrade. ;)
Im considering a new mobo/cpu upgrade but not until I do 2 things. First see how bf4 runs on what I have. Then do some research myself on current cpu performance vs my i7 and of course figuring in the bang for buck scenerio. I dont run it at 4.6 24/7 . That was for benchmarking. 4.0 is where I have it now.
On a side note.....I dont know if it was just poor game settings or what since I merely jumped into the game a few days ago and only did a few video settings........but Metro 2033 ran like crap for some reason. Very laggy. I was concerned but never looked into it.

I think I will try NVidias Beta 331.40 drivers on this.

The new GeForce 331.40 beta driver is now available to download. An essential update for all new titles including the Battlefield 4 Beta, the 331.40 beta ensures maximum performance and system stability.

i'll wait til the official ATI driver update come out for the BF4. i hate using beta drivers. had bad experiences in the past. lol.

@JD, the Mantle doesn't come out or fully implemented until Dec. for now all ATI and Nvidia cards all run like crap at 2550 res. we'll have to see in a few months when they start slowly rolling out game updates and driver updates.

That may be so, but they said BF4 is the first game to use it.

Rumour is this beta is really old code as well. Likely not reflective of the final release...

Howard, not to mention you having a human child. I hear they are really expensive.
