Try running "sfc /scannow". Sounds like something might be corrupted somewhere.

sfc /scannow is useless on anything newer than XP, all it does is check files

but Win8 has this

http://blogs.technet.com/b/joscon/archi ... -2012.aspx

try the dism restore health command

but to be honest, if it's windows update, probly something corrupted in the software distribution cache. I'd try stopping the win update service and tossing the c:\windows\softwaredistribution folder first

i gotta say, ever since win7, windows update has been pretty bullet proof. i can't recall how many times it's in the middle of downloading update, and i happen to be testing my rig and overclocking, and BSOD, and yet, when i get back in, it just redownloads everything again, and nothing gets corrupted.

i would say, if your rig is stable, just leave it alone.
