3 yrs without a fresh install. Eww
And what are you doing up at 3am?

Speaking of which. Doesnt W8 full version work just like previous versions? Deletes your currents windows ...unlike the upgrade which installs over your current version? The guy at BB told me windows 8.1 full version just upgrades leaving windows 7 and all my files. Is he on crack or has things changed that 8 wasnt aware of?

You can always do an upgrade install, clean install or side-by-side install. No different than any other version of Windows.

I obviously recommend doing a clean install though.

During thanksgiving break or winter break, I'll either go Win 8 or re-install 7. I'll let you guys know whats up. Also, I'm to lazy to fix my clock in the bios, that's why the time is off.

That copy of Windows 8.1 standard I paid $120 for at BB yesterday, well here's what made sense to me.
I took it back.
Found a sealed copy of Windows 8 Pro locally on CL for $50 and snatched it.
Why not save $80 and update to 8.1 for free?
Duh

Got it installed.
At first I was skeptical which is why I took so long to switch from W7.
I have to say I like it. Much more so than anticipated.
But let me say...Windows 8.0 is horrendous. Pathetic. But once 8.1 was applied it was night and day. A drastic improvement. Yes it takes some getting used to navigating but once you do its nice.

im still on windows 8 with a classic shell. i see no point in jumping on 8.1 considering i'd be neglecting most of the improvements. when my next clean install comes around then ill go to 8.1 but until then I can't be bothered

Still in school? Make sure you grab the Windows 8.0 keys too since they activate 8.1 as well. Can never have enough keys ;)

yep, still in school. Trying to finish ASAP, as I'm tired of it. Totally right on not having enough keys. Got a bunch including, xp, vista, 7, and one or two on windows server. I think i should implement Active Directory.

I'm assuming you have access to Server Essentials 2012 R2? If so, strongly recommend installing that in your household. Very simple management yet so powerful.

Well, I had nothing better to do today so I installed win 8.1. First of, wow! it literally took 10 min to install. Booted of the usb, went through the process and was at the start menu before you could say chocolate chip cookie. As far as using it, no real issues to report. Changed the settings so it boots straight to desktop and everything is good to go.
