Post Reinstall??
My 2500k finally came in today. Can I go without re-installing windows if I jump from p55 to z68? I don't feel like reinstalling windows today.

Shouldn't poise a problem ... however, there may be an activation (reactivation) process due to motherboard/CPU change. Let me know how it goes.

I'll back up this weekend and do the hardware swap. If something happens I"ll go ahead and reinstall.

moving from one intel platform to another shouldn't pose an issue reinstalling, it'll still be using most of the same drivers since they;re mostly universal. it will redetect some of them, and a few new drivers will need to be installed, but it should be fine

Well its done. It booted up without a problem. I only had to reinstall some drivers, with the network driver being of most importance. Does seem to be a bit faster then my p55 setup. With that said hopefully I'll have enough time to play around with overclocking this bad boy.

The 560 handles games pretty well. Currently the only game I'm playing that's demanding is Metro 2033. With the HD 5770 I would have to play on medium settings to get decent frame rates. With the 560 on high I'm getting around 40 or so fps. Being winter, I usually don't work on cars and use a ton of lotion to stop my hands from cracking, thus you see those girly fingers. In the summer time they're filled with grease and oil.

for smart response technology? So use a SSD to boost the performance of my current SSD, something like Inception? Sounds interesting.

maybe, I was thinking more just to fill the void in that empty slot. looks like it should have something in it

can you not install an SSD in there to boot from though? I thought that's what that mSATA port was for?

Its actually Intel's smart response technology. Its used as a cache for conventional HDDs to boost performance, especially boot times.

that's lame, I thought it was an mSATA port you could use as a boot drive, I can see the use for caching and all, but the option would be nice
