Post potential server build
so i've been soooo busy at work today, i had time to do some shopping, and since my tax return is coming, i came up with this list of options for a server

now i might be able to skip hard drives since i have some already, but i want better ones, so its a tossup there. and i may re-use the existing 2U case i have since it has 6 front removable drive bays which makes swapping out drives easier, even if its not hotswap bays. i'm definitely going to stripe a pair of SSD's though for teh OS. but here's the potentials.

I don't think a i7-2600 will fit in a 1156 mobo. Just sayin.

You better read again...

Sandy Bridge does not work on LGA1156 (P55 chipset). You need to look at LGA1155 boards with P67 chipset.

Personally I think an i7 for a server is a big overkill. I would rather go with
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6819103727 (I know it isn't as powerfull as the i7 but it should suffice plenty I think)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6813130558 (has enough sata connections and isn't costly)

As for harddisks I myself have upgraded my server the day Saturday with these. Used to have the 500GB versions with 16MB cache.

I have it for private use tho, not all that much traffic, our needs might be different bit these drives save both energy and money.
