So tell me JD. just between these 2 cards
Out of curiosity
Would you say that the previous X-FI Titanium

is better than the Recon3d?

I think the Titanium HD is the only X-Fi worth getting. Don't know about the Titanium Fatal1ty. I don't believe any Recon3D's were worth getting at all.

I think you should try this one: http://us.store.creative.com/Creative-S ... Q5PK6I.htm

That last question was only hypothetical. Trying to see if CL took a step backwards on the Recon3D.

As for the ZxR. Yes I considered it but where does the extra $100 come in to play over the Zx?

It would seem to have superior components since it offers 124dB SNR compared to the 116dB on the other Z-cards.

Based on looks alone, it's way better: Image

Compared to the shot of my Z:

It would seem so.

That's the first side by side comparison pics I have seen. It may be worth a shot. I just hope I don't have the well..."user" issues I had with the Zx. I'm still stumped over that 1.
Microcenter does have 2 in stock down the street.

The Zx just hates me.
Same issue as stated. Not just using the control pod but both HPs and speakers directly into the card. The sound seems more "muddy" or under water as compared to the recon3d. I have both. I thought I bought a bad card the first time but no. Using same settings. The bass is terrible as well. Wtf? I cant get it right. Back to the recon. gosh man

Oh happy day!
Finally got the zx working like a charm. I did what you said JD...reluctantly....turned off sbx.
And just like you say Howard....the sound does degrade somewhat when using the control pod thingy. But only volume-wise it seems. Just turn the dam thing up

Yeah SBX sounds terrible on my speakers, but works decently on my Razer headset (which sounds like crap really).

Im ditching my ZX...since im having issues with the control pod thingy and decided to either upgrade to the better built ZXR or the Asus Phoebus. I found where I can get get either one at nearly the same price so im hoping that you...JD, would suggest which would be the best performing card as far as sound and driver stability and build quality.
So please...dont wait for the translation, answer me now.
;)

i am interested to see you get the Phoebus. technically speaking, it looks decent. although it's a gamer's card first, audio second. none the less, a great card that i think will serve you well.

I think the regular Xonar cards have better specs though and cost less?

I still have no issues with my Z, but I use a Razer headset so I just plug it in directly and use the inline volume/mic controls on the headset.

Really??

Anyways....the issue with my zx is distortion in the left channel 9f the HPs when plugged into the pod. Thats with all HPs. Im not sure if it's a problem with the pod or the cards left input jack. I have not figured it out yet. The reason im looking at the Phoebus and zxr is I want the convenience of the external volume control. I dont like reaching to adjust volume. Im quite lazy.

Post Re: Creative Sound Blaster Zx
Found the problem.

I originaly thought it was the ACM but it's not.

I unplugged the ACM from the HP output jack on the card and plugged it into the main speakers output.
It worked fine. but of course I now do not have a place to plug in my speakers.

Then I plugged in the main speakers into where the ACM was. Got the distortion in the left channel.
Another sign its the card and not the ACM.

I then plugged the HP's directly into the cards ACM HP output. Same distortion.
Then plugged the HP's directly into the cards speaker out jack. Worked fine.

Bad card.

Question: Will this ACM work on any soundcard as long as it has the necessary jacks?
Im just gonna buy another soundcard and use this ACM on it if possible.
And if possible...which ones are capable?

Isn't it simply a volume knob? If so, it should work on any output. Why not test it on the onboard sound?

And you only got the Zx right? Not the ZxR?

Correct.
And yes its the Zx

The card has to have a HP output jack (in order to have both speakers and ACM attached)

My mobo doesn't have a dedicated HP output jack.
It's either or.
And yes I tried the ACM on the Mobo's speaker output and it works fine. But I'm not about to use onboard sound. meh

So I was thinking of getting the ZXr since its a better built card and give the extra ACM to someone who just might have a Z card.

When I get the Zxr you can have it. Just gotta get it to ya. I kinda like the red one (ACM) I have so you may get the black one. ;)
CL is having a 30% off sale so I might better get it soon.
