I think I annoyed Time Warner.
So I got moved into my new place over the weekend, and after plugging in my new modem I realized it wasn't working (wouldn't connect to the internet). I called up TWC to have them tell me why it wasn't connecting. First they told me it's because I haven't registered the modem with them yet, and if I would navigate to (registration URL) and register it everything would work just fine.

After explaining to the man on the phone that it's not possible to register the modem online when I have no internet he passed me onto a real technician. The technician told me that they couldn't even see the modem from their end, so after confirming that it was plugged into the wall correctly (yes, really) they decided to have a tech come out the next day to check the lines into the building.

However, me being a very impatient person I decided to poke around my new pad. I found the cable junction box hidden in my closet, opened it, and noticed there were 5 cables. One marked "A" that was connected to a 3-way splitter with cables marked "bedroom", "living room", and "kitchen" and one marked "B" that wasn't connected to anything. So I unplugged "A" from the splitter and hooked it up to "B" and everything started working perfectly.

When the tech arrived the next morning he explained that the "A" line was carrying TV only and the "B" was carrying internet. That the previous occupant must have hooked up the modem/router in the closet and used wireless since only TV was being sent to the outlets around the apartment.

No real point to this story, just thought it was interesting.

obligatory "cool story bro".

Also had a bro. Inlaw who worked for them. He is now 100% disabled after falling through a ceiing. He took a very massive chunck of change out of their bank account.
