Post Samsung 840 250gb SSD's?
Anyone here have any experience with these samsung SSD's?

I'm thinking of buying 4 of the 250gb models to stripe in my new servers i'm building

I see some numbers on them in this anandtech review for a different transcend drive and they seem like they perform well enough considering i can get them for 170 a piece

i've been following closely on the 840, 830 and Crucial's M4. both M4 and 830 are tested and true. 840 on the other hand uses the new TLC technology, which theoretically could be prone to higher fail rate, due to the nature of TLC writing to the cells. also some user have pointed out that they're unable to find the MTBF number for the 840, probably due to the significantly lower than 830. so time will only tell if 840 will truly be reliable.

other than that, spec wise 840 is a great buy. it's a cheaper technology that has great performance.

well, i was reading the anandtech review on the pro models quite carefully earlier before work. I did read about the potential for failure, but they also noted that a mechanism is in place to detect voltage changes and adjust to the change in order to circumvent that and possibly even drastically increase the lifespan, interesting read anyway, here's the page

i'm thinking i may go with for of the 256gb pro models

i am eyeing between the regular 840 or the M4, since they're both very similar in price. most likely i will probably go for the M4 since it's tried and true. even tho it might be a bit slower. this will be for my living room HTPC rig, so stability and reliability is #1. my later upgrade for the gaming rig can afford some risk and experiment.

i'm looking for raw speed. I plan on striping two pairs of them in each vmware server to store virtual machine disks. i'm not worried redundancy since everything will be backed up to the file server regularly
