Post OCZ Vertex 3 120GB
So it was on sale for $107.33 after shipping/tax, and a $20 MIR as well. At $87.33 for 120GB of SSD goodness, who could resist?! Ended up being a pricing error on Newegg, but they still honored my order :D

As you can see, it's marginally faster, but I'm guessing it's hitting the limits of SATAII :( Back to my decision of going SB-E or not...

Subtotal $139.99
GST/HST $12.35
Purolator Ground (International) $4.99
Promo Code -$50.00
Order Total $107.33

In actuality, the $50 promo code was supposed to be off of $179.99, not $139.99. They caught on later that day, but I nabbed it first thing in the morning!

*shrug*

My Vertex 2 has had 0 issues for 1.5yr that I've had it. Same goes for my Vertex 1 60GB which is just over 2yr. Same goes for my Petrol 64GB which is only a couple months old. And finally the Onyx 32GB, which died once, but it's basically a first-gen el' cheapo SSD that I got for free. OCZ happily RMA'd it without issue though.

All my important data resides in the confines of RAID10 anyways.

And if I was you BAM, I'd save a little more and get an Intel.

I'm with BAM...I stay away from OCZ SSD's after quite a few failures. My first 4 SSDs were OCZ and 2 of those drives died within 6 months. I do have two OCZ Onyx drives in use right now and they've been solid for the past 3 months. I bought them for the simple fact that they were cheap and the rigs they're in do not need alot of space.

My main rig has been using Mushkin for the past two sets of drives. My current pair push 980MB/sec write and 1080MB/sec read.

Well since I'm still using SAS drives for the moment, I find the read and write speeds of some SSD's a bit slow in comparison and it might only be for a few tests but when yours hitting 1.4Gb/sec read speeds you have to think would SSD's be much difference and well I'm beginning to think I'm just going to have to find out by buying a few...

I'm looking at the Crucial M4 128Gb models... I've just got two 64Gb models for my home server and my HTPC rigs that are made with AMD......

Mechanicals and SSDs are night and day. There are no read/write delays, no noise and no heat. You also don't have to fork out cash for a quality RAID card to get amazing performance. The only conceivable way someone could make an argument for mechanical drives is storage space and in home environment that is usually a network server that is limited to 100MB/sec over Gigabit.

I guess that's what I'm looking into by having bought these two SSD's.. I wanted to see what the fuss was about but to be honest, I think I already know what I'm gonna be doing so it really doesn't matter!! I'll just end up replacing my SAS drives with all M4 128Gb SSD's!! Its not that I need the speed as such, but that I like to have the space and so I might even get away with 4 but I think it'll be a bit silly having a 5805 thrown in there and only 4 drives connected too it!!

I'm very interested in seeing what the SSD's will be like with my AMD machines and I mean new AMD machines!! :)
