Post the most expensive FAN i've ever bought
i just placed an order on the most expensive FAN i've ever crome across.

i ordered three of these http://www.blacknoise.com/en/products/it/8

and here's the review: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cooler ... html#sect0

i recently upgraded my HTPC chasis to a new Silverstone GD07 that has 7 fan slots with excellent positive air flow pressure. the case is very best in its class as far as compatibility to larger graphics cards, tall CPU heatsinks, Cooling, and aesthetic. only thing is the stock fans that came with the case are a bit noisy. they generate about 28db of sound and it's just too much for someone like me who is very particular about the movie watching experience. i went out and got some Enermax low rpm fans http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835214015 as much as they're truely SILENT, the trouble is they don't push enough air. as the result. the temperature difference between the stock fans and the Enermax ones are about 3 degrees Celsius for my HDD temperature (31c vs 28c) you might say well. 3 degrees isn't that much of a different. but i am anal.

anywho, i've been reading on countless reviews on 120mm fans on the net for the past week, and came to the conclusion that there're only a very few handful of fans out there that have the best noise to airflow ratio, and they all cost an arm and a leg. i was hesitant to pull the trigger on a 120mm fan that costs upwards of $23~$28 a pop, but then i convinced myself that rather take the punge than end up spending more later on buying 6 or 7 cheaper fans again and again, because that's what i did with those Enermax fans.

it should be here in a week, i'll let you guys know.

btw, never trust any noise ratings on the box. they're ALL inflated. just some are more inflated than others. i got four SilentX fans (2x120mm, and 2X80mm). while they're all rated at 15db. the 120mm model sound 10 dbs louder than the 80mm model version. and independent testing online shows that they indeed are actually 26db as oppose to the rated 15db.

actually the reviews i posted above are for the last generation model. the newest generation is the eLoop one, which has looped fan blades. but based on specs, they're even quieter than the last gen, with the same airflow.

Nothing wrong with paying a little extra if you want to for good quality fans. Or any piece of hw for tyat matter.
