Don't you have your hands full already? I mean, with your W/C and what not? Don't get too excited ... it may not be until the end of this year or the beginning of next before the LGA2011 socket comes out ... Soooo, even if you THINK you'll want to upgrade, you'll need a new mobo and processor ... that'll run you about $600 just for a mid-level entry into Ivy Bridge ... :ugeek:

LGA1155 Ivy will be cheaper though ;)

No need for LGA2011 unless using multiple GPUs IMO.

JD, I think you hit on something. As far as multiple GPU's are concerned. For the sheer sake of performance, i.e. games, and video editing ... I am beginning to believe that only one GPU is all that one really needs. I mean, the single GPU card is getting faster and faster, (Nvidia GTX580) and even with a dual-core GPU, (ATI 6990) it just doesn't make any economical sense to try and got with multiple GPU's anymore. The cost of two cards and if you then decide to water-cool them, (additional $$$) the investment for multiple graphic cards goes up exponentially and the performance difference is only, what? 20% more? I'm not sure in real-worl apps and games if anyone can tell the difference anymore. Couple all of that with the new CPUs coming from Intel ... I just see that having one super fast CPU (LGA155 Ivy Bridge) and one super fast GPU (either AMD or Nvidia circa 4Qtr2011 or 1H2012), will be all one needs going into the next couple years ... :ugeek:

Yup, I've used Crossfire twice now (4850s and 5870s) and both times have left a bad taste in my mouth. It simply does not work. There is no 100% scaling and in some cases no scaling at all. Can't really play any of the latest games until a 1-3 months later once the driver support comes. And the cost is alarming too. Just really no reason IMO.

If you want something new, I'd say grab the Z68 and a i7 2600K and you'll be set for quite some time. If you can wait, Ivy Bridge chips will hit LGA1155 first, so then get it for that.

Just my 2 cents though...

Do you see this as a substantial upgrade over the X58---i7-9xx

I have seriously looked at putting together an i7-2600K/GTX580/SSD setup but can't quite decide on a motherboard to mate everything up with. I like ASUS boards the best, but David got that MSI board and I have read that their boards are pretty good performers right now. What do you guys think?

What's not to like about 5GHz? However I wouldn't say its substantial by any means, but if you're bored and have money then why not!? Plus you get to tinker with EFI instead of BIOS.

My first dead ASUS board: P8P67 PRO B3 :( I thought it was the CPU, so I went and bought a i5 2500K today (to replace the i3 2100) but nope, not it. So now I need to go grab a new motherboard tomorrow. Probably get the same though as I like the connectivity of that board...

I am seriously contemplating using the i5 2500K as my desktop. Then grab a H67 board for the server and continue using the i3 2100 in it. Obviously my desktop switch would be pending the RMA of the P8P67 PRO though.

But I don't know what to do... If I use the 2500K as my desktop, then I need a new CPU block as my Heatkiller block is only for LGA1366

Well whilst I believe that there is a place for SLI and Crossfire or even Crossfire X, I dont believe even yet that you would be able to run a single card on a 30" display and still hit 60FPS with all the bells and whistles turned on, it just doesnt happen.

I've been running mostly high end hardware for years and I've never thought enough was enough. There's always a game that will push it that bit more than what you have, but thank god to the world of overclocking, it's made a bit easier.

I know for me I like to be a little bit different, so sat in front of 3 of the best 30" monitors I've ever used or seen, I'm happy to say I'm going to go a bit mental and enjoy whatever I got because I know that when I am using all three screens with my i7 system, it will be amazing and being able to game at that res, smoothly is out of this world :)

In a nutshell, don't buy Corsair Builder Series PSUs. Or any "value-class" PSU for that matter. I'm pretty sure that must be the culprit here.

Ya'll see here now, it was only a "low power" PC, so I didn't need some 850W+ PSU. Figured Corsair Builder series would be "okay", but I guess not.

Ordered a Seasonic S12II 520W. Awaiting pickup at the store which I plan to get to tomorrow. Need to exchange my i5 2500K while I'm there too.
