Post i7 3770K or 2700K
i read somewhere that the sandybridge processor actually has a higher overclock ceiling and runs cooler.

i am just curious which one of the two should i go with. it seems most people online these days are going 3770K the Ivy Bridge, but if 2700K has a higher overclock ceiling and runs cooler, to me it's a no brainer.

as I understand it, the ivy bridge cpus are build using the 3d transistor thingy which limits their OC potential. If I were going to build a computer right now, I'll definitely go with sandy bridge. But people could be going with ivy bridge because of the z77 platform which supports native usb3. We might need Jdrom to explain this more in detail.

the only real advantage i see with the ivy bridge is better integrated video....but with a discrete video card, that's moot

i've been doing a lot of reading lately apparently clock to clock, Ivy is about 200mhz faster than Sandy. they're both have about the same clock ceiling with Ivy being on the hot side. looks like i might as well get the Ivy.

that's what i meant. clock to clock. Ivy is faster. so you would have to clock Sandy 200mhz higher to be at the same level as Ivy. so a 4.5ghz Ivy should be the same performance level as 4.7ghz Sandy.

the price difference beteween the two right now on newegg is ZERO. which is why i think i am just going to get the Ivy.

No cost difference, then it's a no reason not to get the 3770k IMO.

Buying the 2700k would be like buying a GTX580 today when the GTX680 is out. Yes, it might not be THAT much faster, but fact is it's newer and marginally faster.

Anyways, you're putting it under water so I don't think heat should be a huge concern. It's still cooler than my 3930k ;)
